Used Norinco GSAD AK47 CA

Among the earliest of the Chinese imports, affectionately known as a GSAD, this CA legal Norinco AK47 is one of a potential four off list Norinco & Polytech AK pattern rifles available for California.

Explore the remarkable history of the CA legal Norinco AK47, also known as the GSAD AK, which became a sought-after gem for enthusiasts. Imported by Golden State Arms Distributors Inc. from Beijing’s Jing’an factory in 1984, these AK rifles have a unique story.

Features of the GSAD AK include options for fixed or folding stocks and two types of bayonets: the detachable AKM style and the folding spike, known as the “Spiker.” The blued finish, deeper than most Chinese AKs, gives it a premium look. The wood furniture, ranging from medium blonde to dark brown, sets it apart from earlier Clayco Imports.

Engraved with “GSAD” by the ATF for brevity, these rifles feature clean markings like “GSAD MANH. BEA.. CA.” The ATF abbreviation allows for less lettering on the receiver, emphasizing the gun’s iconic appearance.

Speculations suggest GSAD AKs found their way into the movie industry, possibly due to their fitting look for Vietnam military movies. The clean design and lack of busy markings made them potential prop guns. Mr. Erik Berry, the founder of Golden State Arms Distributors, mentioned collaborations with “The Hand Prop Room” and “Stembridge Gun Rentals.”

These imports were highly successful, with 2000 to 4000 rifles imported monthly from 1984 to 1990-1993. Despite their popularity, GSAD AK47 rifles are challenging to find, thanks to owners valuing them highly. The rarity and quality continue to drive their value up, making them collector’s items.

The Chinese AK success story took a turn in 1993 when Golden State Arms Distributors Inc. dissolved. The subsequent 1994 import restrictions, based on “sporting purposes,” impacted the AK pattern rifles. Although the changes were cosmetic, they altered the course of Chinese AK imports, further elevating the desirability of early models like the GSADs. Discover the legacy of these CA legal Norinco AK47s, prized for their rarity and quality.
